Interview with Kurtis McLean

Kirkland Lake's Kurtis McLean Scores his 1st NHL goal in his second NHL game. And no! Kirkland Lake is not a suburb of Timmins. Gotta love those Americans 

I know all Kirkland Laker's and Canadians for that matter ' are just as proud as I am of the accomplishments of Kurtis. It is not every day that someone makes it to the NHL and gets to play. Getting signed is an accomplishment in iteself, but then getting to play just adds even more honour. I must have jumped out of my seat with excitement back in the fall when I heard that he was signed with the Islanders.

He now has his first goal in only his second game - It is unbelievable. A lot of really good hockey players grew up in Kirkland Lake. There was and still is so much talent ' and Kurtis is the perfect inspiration to show many young hockey players that they can make it too, if they never give up and persevere. It is a fantastic story - and the amazing thing is Kurtis gets to do what he loves AND - always has something to fall back on when he is done. Yes, he got himself an education in the process - a great inspiration for young people.

Thinking back - there were a number from out of a small town that left for the green backs of the US to go and study. Just goes to show - if you really want something - there is sometimes a way - within certain constraints of realism.

He portrays a great attitude off the ice - and it has been awesome listening to all his interviews and highlights. Congratulations to Kurtis - and we all know he will really make a go at continuing his professional career in the NHL. No matter what now - he has accomplished things that nobody can take away. I mean - how many can say that they have scored in the NHL - exactly!
